Cooking with Kendall: Vanilla French Toast
November 22, 2011 in Featured, Uncategorized by Kendall Jones
One of my favorite breakfast meals from my childhood is French toast. This version bumps up the flavor with delicious vanilla and will have everyone in your family going back for seconds! You can also top them with any fruit you have handy.
Vanilla French Toast
5 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup half-and-half or milk
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
10 slices country buttermilk bread
2 tablespoons butter or vegetable oil
Toppings:
- Butter
- Maple Syrup
- Banana Slices
- Blueberries
- Powdered Sugar
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, beat together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Dip bread slices into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Place a baking sheet or serving platter in the oven. In a skillet, or on a griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium heat and spread over cooking surface.
- Add half of the bread slices and cook for 4-6 minutes or until golden, turning once. To keep the toast warm, transfer to the oven.
- Repeat with remaining butter and bread slices.
- Serve with additional butter, maple syrups, bananas, blueberries and powdered sugar.
Total Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 4-6
